Music Therapy New Zealand shares the Australian Music Therapy Association’s shock and disappointment at the sudden removal of music therapy services from NDIS funding in Australia. Music therapy is an evidence-based allied health service, requiring specialist training at Master’s level. Registered Music Therapists support people with diverse needs to work towards identified therapeutic goals. Music therapy should continue to be valued alongside allied professions, such as speech therapy and occupational therapy,  and not as a recreational activity or music education. We support AMTA’s campaign to have this decision reversed, so that 8000 Australians do not lose NDIS funded music therapy services.
